Red Sea The clear blue waters between Sharm-el-Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula, and Hurghada on the mainland Egyptian coastline hide some of the northern Red Sea’s biggest surprises – fabulous coral walls, reef gardens and mysterious shipwrecks. Strewn across the Straits of Gubal, gateway to the Suez Canal, the reefs of this region are as rich in history as they are in natural beauty. Temperatures are mild in winter (October to March) and blazing hot in summer (April to September) – often reaching 40°C or more. Rainfall is minimal and limited to the winter months. Water temperatures range from the upper twenties to 30°C in summer to winter lows of 19-20°C. Most of the dive sites in the area are accessible by live-aboard dive boat only.
